Important factor for a search engine like Google.

Ideal Page Content for Google

1. Choosing a Search Term for Google.

  • Decide on the search term that is going to be the source of visitors to the page, e.g. “big blue balloons”.
  • This is referred to as your keyword or keyword phrase.
  • In Sept 2004 a Google systems engineer stated that 50% of the 200 million search terms each day, were unique in that nobody had searched for that phrase before. A remarkable fact. Use your imagination when choosing your search terms.
  • Remember that each page is a distinct information site for Google, and that you should only really aim for one search term per page.

2. Page Title for Google.

  • If you are a manufacturer of "big blue ballons", you might decide that the page title for Google should be "Big Blue Balloons For Sale."
  • However, if your chosen keyword phrase, and the part you play in that keyword phrase, is not clear, it is worthwhile giving considerable thought to the words to be used.

3. Page Heading for Google.

  • Start the page content with a large heading that contains the search term.
  • Not only is this of obvious value to a visitor, who is not yet sure that your page contains what they are seeking, but also for Google.

4. Page Content for Google.

  • Write the page with lots of interesting information, and include your search term several times, but don’t stuff the page with keywords.

5. Page Size for Google.

  • Keep your home page down to the absolute minimum in size. Definitely under 30k. 15k is better.
  • SEO pages. Aim for a minimum of 300 words, and if you can find sufficient good information for 1,000 words or more even better.
  • Under no circumstances should a page be over 101k as Google will not even index the remainder.

6. Importance of a Site Map for Google.

  • If you have a complex site, it makes sense to give visitors a site map.
  • Regardless of the complexity of your site, you are advised to provide a site map for Google. If it’s good enough for Google, it’s good enough for the likes of you and me.

7. "I have tried all that, and am still nowhere to be found".

  • The Google algorithm is said to have over 100 factors, of which page content and links from other pages are the most important. The mathematics involved is fairly mind blowing for all but serious mathematicians. There are several links on the next page, headed Google links, that give just a small sample.
  • As far as page content is concerned there is a link that explains that, instead of simply scanning for page-based text, Google technology analyses the full content of a page and many other factors including the precise location of each word.

The work to produce the ideal page for Google is referred to as on page search engine optimisation. These on page factors can be beaten by the off page factors for Google described in links. Without links from good quality pages, your page will have difficulty in being highly ranked for a competitive search term.

CAUTIONARY NOTE: Make sure that you understand the Google philosophy on the tricks that some webmasters use to try to cheat, and that can result in being banned by Google.

How Does Good SEO Works -SEO-Talks

Keep business websites clean.

Web designers by nature are extremely bright, clever and inventive individuals, who are always seeking to create something new and "cool". However many of the clients for websites are business people who are the opposite end of life’s spectrum.

Mistakes for visitors to business websites

Flash and clever gimmicks which take ages to appear
Redirects that trap visitors
Complicated structure that visitors have difficulty in following
Pop ups that drive visitors crazy
Pages that exceed 30k in size - too slow to load for those on dial-up

Common SEO Mistakes

The Google search engine

The Google search engine is an astonishing invention that has proved to be a giant leap forward in helping internet searchers to find exactly what they want. In its continuous efforts to improve this service, it tries extremely hard to ensure that clever webmasters do not cheat

Common SEO Mistakes for possible ban by Google

There are various bans that can be applied by Google, including the following:-

Keyword ban by Google – this means that if the target keyword is “blue brass balloons”, a page for which this keyword is banned by Google will not appear in the ranking for this search term.

Site ban by Google – this means that the offending site is removed from the index. The future treatment by Google could be a complete ban for life on that domain name.

Server or IP ban by Google – this can either mean that all sites on that IP are no longer listed in Google, which is most unfortunate to say the least for sites that have not offended, or that computers using that IP can no longer access the Google search engine to make searches.

These are some of the reasons:-

Hidden text e.g. white text on white background
Signing lots of guestbooks
Pointing several domain names onto the same site without using 301
Use of doorway pages
Lack of knowledge on Google’s policy on links from same IP
Linking to link farms; links from others cannot possibly harm you
Links or alts from invisible or tiny GIFs
